Continuous Improvement Plan
The CIP is a document that is designed to guide the school improvement effort of the school. It is reviewed regularly and revised as needed in response to the school’s progress on the identified goals and strategies. Below is the Parent Involvement Portion for Ider School
Part VI – School Parental Involvement Plan as required by Section 1118 of NCLB
Parental Involvement:
Describe how the school will convene an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I and explain Title I requirements, including the 1% set-aside, and the right of parents to be involved.
During October, Ider School will hold an annual meeting for all parents of our students. Parents are notified of the meeting through 1)notices sent home by students, 2)School Messenger, and 3) marquee postings. Announcements are also made available for our Limited English Proficient students and parents.
Describe: 1) How there will be a flexible number and format of parent meetings offered; 2) How parents will be involved in the planning, review and improvement of the Title I Program (Note: State the school’s process for how all Title I parents have the opportunity for involvement in decision-making.); and 3) How funds allocated for parent involvement are being used in the school.
In an effort to provide all parents with the opportunity to attend, we offer the same information during a school day meeting and an evening meeting. Topics discussed include the Continuous Improvement Plan, the Title I Program, the Parental Involvement section of the eCIP, Parent-School Compacts, and a parent survey. At the annual meeting of parents, Ider School presents information about its Title I program, Continuous Improvement Plan, as well as about curriculum, and assessment. Parents will learn about the eCIP plan, and our reading, math, language, science, and social studies goals. We have parents on the eCIP committee who were active participants in developing our plan. These parents are given the opportunity to review and offer input before the plan is submitted for approval.
Describe how the school provides parents of participating children timely information in a uniform format and, to the extent practicable in a language they can understand, about programs under Title I, a description and explanation of the curriculum in use, forms of academic assessments, and achievement expectations used, and, if requested by parents, opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and participate as appropriate in decisions related to the education of their children.
At the annual meeting of our parents, Ider School presents information about its Title I program, the Continuous Improvement Plan, curriculum, and assessment. Parents will learn about the CIP plan, and our reading, math, language, science, social studies, and culture goals. Parents are included in the eCIP planning process. All parents who attend the meeting will receive a brochure highlighting our school improvement efforts. After the meeting, a brochure will be sent home with all students.
Describe how parents, the school staff, and students share responsibility for improved student academic achievement for participating students (How the School-Parent Compact is jointly developed with Title I parents; how it is used, reviewed, and updated).
Ider School utilizes a school-wide School-Parent Compact. The compact addresses the responsibility of each of the following stakeholders: Principal, Teacher, Student, Parents. Parents are asked to sign this compact, signifying the commitment to working in partnership with the school and ensuring that their child is successful in school. Compacts are discussed with teachers at the beginning of the year faculty meetings annually. Each teacher is in turn responsible for explaining it to students. The compacts are kept in the teacher's classroom for use during conferences. This plan is reviewed annually, including parent representatives, and modified as needed.
Describe procedures to allow parents to submit comments of dissatisfaction with the Continuous Improvement Plan
During the eCIP review process, parents are notified of the review and given opportunity to give input regarding the revision of the plan. The finalized plan is also available for review. If a parent finds the plan to be unsatisfactory, they have the right to submit their concerns in writing to the school, and the school will submit parents' concerns to the Central Office or will reconvene the committee to review the concerns
Describe how the school will build capacity for parental involvement including how parents will be encouraged to become equal partners in the education of their children? (See NCLB Section 1118, requirements for building capacity in parental involvement.) To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, our school:
(1) Shall provide training for parents of participating children in understanding such topics as the State's academic content standards and State student academic achievement standards, State and local academic assessments, the requirements of Title I, and how to monitor their child’s progress and work with teachers to improve the achievement of their children. (Describe)
Ider School will accomplish much of this through its annual parent meeting held in October. Parents will receive an overview of the state academic content standards, academic achievement standards, and assessment. An explanation will be given orally and in brochure format regarding Title I and how parents have the right to be involved in their child's education. Ider School will also offer an Open House by October 31, where parents will be given the opportunity to meet with teachers for any further clarification needed.
(2) Shall provide materials and training to help parents to work with their children to improve their children's achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement. (Describe)
Parents can receive assistance as necessary from the counselor on using INOW Home to access student grades and assignments.
(3) Shall educate teachers, office personnel, and other school staff, with the assistance of parents, in the value and utility of contributions of parents, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and the school. (Describe)
Ider School works with teachers through in-services, faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, and department meetings to ensure understanding of the importance of parental involvement and that of parents as partners. Teachers use the INOW system to enter grades and assignments, which parents can view via the Internet.
(4) Shall to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other federal programs, and conduct other activities, such as parent resource centers, that encourage and support parents in more fully participating in the education of their children. (Describe)
Ider School holds a Title I Parent Night in October. Parents are encouraged to attend Academic Booster Club meetings. There is a parent volunteer program in place that enables parents to volunteer in the classroom, and perform other duties to assist teachers. Ider School has retired faculty members who volunteer time on campus. Ider School would like to involve our parents on a greater scale
(5) Shall ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language the parents can understand. (Describe)
In addition to written communication sent home with students, Ider School also posts information on the school website. An itinerate translator is also used when needed for information for parents of EL students.
(6) Shall provide such other reasonable support for parental involvement activities as parents may request. (Describe)
Ider School makes every effort to work with parents in meeting their requests and communication needs. INOW Home is available for parents to enable them to check their child's progress in classes via the Internet. Ider School also has School Messenger to announce academic, extracurricular, and emergency information as needed. These two availabilities have been positive steps to involve parents and to greatly increase communication between teachers and parents.
Describe how the school will ensure the provision for participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory students; including providing information and school reports in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand.
Ider School, to the extent practical, provides opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency and parents with disabilities. When the need arises, an itinerant translator will communicate with parents in Spanish. Every effort is made to accommodate parents with disabilities. Ider School is a handicap-accessible campus.
